How the Bowen Technique helped a child who wet their bed
By Maree Kendall

When my first bed-wetter came to me for Bowen, I was determined to help in every way possible. This is how it went, visit by visit:

First Visit, this desperate mum of 3 children, who had been to everyone, with no success, introduced me to her 10 years old (we'll call him Young X).  He looked a bit angry when he entered the room -  you know, that "why do I have to be here" and "not another one" kind of look!

Young X had previously had a lot of structural work done on him, relating to ankle/knee/pelvic imbalances.  Also, his neck was very tight causing him problems at school AND the 'bad attitude', as his mother put it.  There was birth trauma resulting in a forceps delivery, which could contribute a lot to the neck problems.  He had only had a few dry nights in 10 years and often wet the bed several times a night.  He also had a congenital immature bladder (inherited from the mother) and was overweight.

After explaining what was involved in having a Bowen treatment, Young X, got up on the table.  We were able to complete all the Basic Relaxation Moves (BRM) in the first session and he certainly felt far less angry when he left.

Second visit - 7 days later.  Young X reported that he still wet every night - but only once a night.  He felt happier in himself & wasn't getting into so many confrontations at school.  We repeated the BRMs, performed the Kidney & Pelvic procedures, as the sensations pointed to these areas.   We also talked about him taking more responsibility for his bed-wetting & he agreed to not wake his mother (which he had always done) to change his own bed & put the soiled clothes in the washing machine.  He was happy to come back in a week.

Third visit, Young X presented with a chest infection & was on antibiotics.  He was still wetting every night & found it difficult to wake up.  It is possible the virus, infection, plus the antibiotics could have influenced this outcome.  I was anxious to try the Coccyx Procedure, but the chest infection was a priority this visit.  So I performed the Upper BRMs, Respiratory, Upper Respiratory & TMJ.  He responded well & said that he could breathe a lot easier straight away.

Fourth visit, he was fully recovered from the chest infection - his mother was surprised as she had the same thing for 3 weeks, but hadn't had any Bowen! But, surprise, surprise, Young X had 3 dry nights!  Everyone was very happy.  As he was feeling well, I decided to start the Bed-wetting Protocol, & performed the Coccyx Procedure, plus suggested the changes in diet.  He had been drinking a lot of juices with apple in them, but agreed to change to more water and juices without apple.
Also, he agreed to cut out dairy products & consider a more alkaline diet, with his mum's help.

Fifth visit, he bounced in with the news that he'd had 6 dry nights (1 wet in the middle).  This was the most dry nights he'd had in his life!  We performed the Coccyx Procedure on the other side & he agreed to come back each week for this procedure.

Sixth visit, he still reported 6 dry nights (1 wet in the middle again).  He was enjoying his change in diet & had taken up a job delivering pamphlets.  This was a big step as previously he had been quite sedentary, preferring to play computer games.

Seventh visit, he had a set -back, only 1 dry night.  Mother informed me that he had been on Flixetide for his cough, ever since the virus 4 weeks ago.  Even though the cough wasn't a big problem, the doctor thought it was a good preventative.  We performed the Coccyx Procedure again & they agreed to come back next week, despite the set-back.

Eighth visit, he reported 5 dry nights in a row.  I performed the Respiratory Move to clear birth trauma.  His mother spoke to Young X about his birth trauma (which involved a lengthy forceps delivery) plus the beauty & joy she experienced during & after the birth.  He really enjoyed hearing his story again & I felt this was a wonderful way to clear the stress he had experienced, coming into the world.

Ninth visit, he had another 5 dry nights in a row.  This consistency was encouraging.  I felt that he still needed more than the Coccyx Procedure & so went with the body sensations.  We performed the lower BRMs, Hamstring, Ankle & Coccyx, as he had very strong sensations in these areas. (Also, his heel had been extremely sore for days prior to this visit).  The pain in his heel disappeared after this treatment.

Tenth visit, Young X had experienced wandering pains in the abdomen & stomach for several days.  I decided to do all the BRMs again, Respiratory and Coccyx Procedures, to address the stomach pains, which appeared to be from constipation.

As the school holidays were approaching, we decided to give Young X and Mum a three week break from Bowen, to let the body settle.

Seven days later I had a very excited Young X phone me to report that he had now recorded 15 dry nights in a row since the 9th visit!  He & his mother were ecstatic.  I was overjoyed & congratulated him on his success & persistence in the program!
